Racked

This past week 2nd grade students have been working hard to find the true meaning of the Christmas spirit.  While they are all very excited for Christmas break and the gifts that will come with it, they are finding out how rewarding an experience it is to be the giver of a gift and how fulfilling that alone can be.  They have tried to stealthily (though sometimes they were busted) to give their fellow peers, teachers, and other adults in the building a little “gift” noting that they had been “RACKed”, meaning they received a “Random Act of Christmas Kindness!”  They left a candy cane with the note attached.  They loved being able to do this and looked forward to it every day.  For some with siblings in other classes it proved to be a little more difficult to keep our surprise under wraps, but they did a pretty amazing job with it!  At the end of the day we would discuss how many people’s days they may have just helped to make a little brighter and how good it felt to know that we as a class had done that.  To see kids carrying the candy canes at the end of the day, enjoying them in their classes, or a class putting them in their backpacks was even more exciting to witness, knowing they were responsible for it.  The 2nd graders are excited to continue to spread Christmas cheer this season in the next couple of weeks.
