Certified Substitute Teacher Requirements
Individuals may serve as a Certified Substitute Teacher if they hold a valid Nebraska teaching certificate.
Requirements include:
✔ Valid Nebraska Teaching Certificate
✔ Completion of the Nebraska substitute application process
✔ Required background checks
Local Substitute Teacher Requirements
Nebraska's Local Substitute Permit provides an opportunity for individuals who do not hold a teaching certificate to serve students in Nebraska schools.
Requirements include:
✔ Minimum of 48 semester credit hours from an accredited college or university
✔ Completion of the Nebraska substitute application process
✔ Submission of official college transcripts
✔ Required background checks (if applicable)
✔ Valid Local Substitute Permit issued by the Nebraska Department of Education
