HERSHEY, NE — This April Fools’ Day, the 6th grade class at Hershey Elementary chose a different path—one filled with positivity, creativity, and plenty of laughter.

Rather than playing pranks, students decided to celebrate the day by sharing joy with others throughout the school. Their idea? Spread smiles instead of surprises.

The 6th graders created colorful displays featuring their favorite jokes, each designed using fun emoji patterns to catch the eye and spark curiosity. These joke posters were then hung throughout the elementary hallways, giving students and staff alike something to laugh about as they moved through their day.

From silly puns to classic kid-friendly humor, the jokes quickly became a highlight for many younger students, who could be seen stopping to read and giggle between classes.

This creative and uplifting idea was sparked by 6th grade teacher Mrs. Messersmith—what a great idea! Her leadership helped turn April Fools’ Day into a meaningful opportunity for students to spread kindness and positivity.

The initiative not only brightened the hallways but also served as a reminder that April Fools’ Day doesn’t have to be about tricks—it can also be about kindness, creativity, and connection.

Thanks to the thoughtful efforts of Mrs. Messersmith and the 6th grade class, Hershey Elementary was filled with smiles, laughter, and a strong sense of community on April 1.
