Hershey Public Schools is thrilled to announce that 2006 Hershey High School graduate Josh O'Neill will represent Team USA in wheelchair rugby at the upcoming 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. The Games, which run from August 28 to September 8, will showcase the talents and resilience of athletes from around the world, and we are incredibly proud to see Josh compete on this global stage.
Josh’s journey to the Paralympics is an inspiring story of determination and passion. Coming from a long line of racecar drivers, Josh’s life took a dramatic turn at the age of 16 when an accident halted his career. In 2009, he was introduced to wheelchair rugby and quickly found his calling in the sport, playing collegiately at the University of Arizona.
According to Team USA's website, Josh made his international debut in 2022 at the Americas Championship, where he helped lead Team USA to a gold medal. He continued to excel, competing at the 2022 World Championship, where his team earned a silver medal, and Josh was named player of the match. Most recently, in 2023, Josh and his team won gold at the ParaPan American Games, solidifying their status as one of the top teams in the world.
