Wrestling: Three Hershey grapplers qualify for state Tell North Platte what you think

The Hershey Panthers earned one championship and two others qualified for the state meet Saturday at the C-4 district meet at Broken Bow.


Bryan McGahan won the 220 lb. title with an 8-3 decision over Ainsworth wrestler Kyle Erthum (33-7).


Lane Richardson (32-1) sustained his first defeat of the season but placed third at 285 lbs., pinning Charles Davis (35-7) of Broken Bow in the first round to punch his ticket to state.

Richardson lost by tiebreaker in the semifinals to drop into the consolation bracket where he defeated Minden’s Andrew Gasseling (27-13) by fall to advance to the third place match.

Wyatt McConnell (31-8) lost to Arcadia-Loup City grappler Jared Curlo (37-14) to finish fourth in the 182 division.

As a team, the Panthers scored 63 points, finishing in ninth place in the 15-team tournament.

Valentine won the title with 232 points, Broken Bow was second with 146.5 and Kearney Catholic third with 131.5. Bridgeport rounded out the top four with 121 points.

The three Panthers will compete Feb. 18-20 at the state tournament in Omaha.
