The Global Cardboard Challenge
Inspired by the YouTube documentary video, "Caine's Arcade", 4th, 5th and 6th graders took part in the Global Cardboard Challenge created by the Imagination Foundation, which fosters creativity and entrepreneurship. Students created storybook arcade games made entirely out of cardboard. Their theme was inspired by a storybook character that they found in the library. Once their games were complete, preschoolers were invited to play their games. To create the games, students had to collaborate on design ideas and use skills learned from math, science and engineering to build them. The filmmaker of Caine's Arcade, Nirvan Mullick's vision for the Imagination Foundation and the Global Cardboard Challenge is to "give kids the tools to the build the things that they can imagine, but to also imagine the world they can build." The cardboard building experience was exciting, fun and challenging and we look forward to participating again next year.
