Hershey Tennis Prepares for State

May 06, 2014

The Hershey Panther Tennis team has been building all season, but the culmination of several events made for a particularly great day this past Saturday, May 3. The Panthers have participated in three invites as well as many duals and triangulars and are proud to say they have come home with at least one win from every competition so far this year. However, this past Saturday was especially exciting as all six who participated in the Hastings St. Cecelia invite won at least one match. For some it was their first win of the season and for others their wins improved their records. Winning scores from Saturday were: Lindsey Taylor def. Hastings St. Cecelia 8-3 at #1 Singles. Krista Schufeldt def. Wilber-Clatonia 8-1 and Alliance 8-3 at #2 Singles. Hope Duggan and Lydia Wiseman def. Hastings St. Cecelia 8-5 at #1 Doubles. Courtney Laubner and Emily Dethlefs def. Wilber-Clatonia 9-7 at #2 Doubles. Even the matches that were lost were really good scores and often times the score did not reflect how well they played. Winning is always great, but other teams at the invite made some comments that were even more noteworthy. A couple of players from an opposing team made a comment about how glad they were that Hershey was at the invite because they are the most respectful team to them. Meanwhile, another team told a couple of Hershey’s players that they had improved tremendously each time they have played each other. It was a great Saturday for the Hershey Panthers as success, sportsmanship, progress, and finally great weather all came together. This was exactly what the team needed as they prepare for the Nebraska State Tennis Championship May 22-23.
