January 2016 Superintendent Message

The first semester of the 2015-2016 school year is behind us and it was a great semester.  It is a pleasure serving as the Superintendent for the Hershey School district.  We are fortunate to have great kids.  It is hard to believe, but we will soon be setting the calendar and making plans for the 16-17 school year!

I would like to remind you that Hershey Public Schools can now take debit or credit cards and online checks through a service called “E-Funds”  to pay towards your child’s lunch account balance.   Parents can access this through your wordware lunch account login or through a button from our website labeled E-Funds. You simply need to register to create an account.  As a parent, you will pay a small fee for this convenience.   If you have questions about this service, please call and ask.

Parents will be notified when we are not having school due to bad weather or other reasons by our School Messenger automated calling system.  Please make sure that you notify the school if you have any special number you want the system to call to give you the school closing information.  The system can have daytime numbers as well as evening numbers.  Information will also be posted on our school website and on Facebook. We will still be calling the following news media to inform them of a late start or closing so you may want to listen to one of the following radio or TV stations:  KNOP-TV, KX104/KODY radio, KOLN-TV, NTV, KOGA radio, and KELN/KOOQ radio.

Congratulations to the fall sports athletes and activity members who earned honors in their respective sports or activities.  Your hard work and long hours of practice and commitment have paid off.  Please continue to strive for excellence at whatever you do!

The month of January will be very busy with the beginning of second semester and a number of activities.  Please utilize all of the features of PowerSchool to access your child’s grades, upcoming assignments and announcements.  PowerSchool’s cell phone app is a must have, if you have a smart phone, it sends notifications to your phone every time a grade is changed!  As a mom, I love this application on my smartphone.  If you have any questions on how to get this app, please call and ask for Kristin Benjamin or myself!

School resumes for students on January 4th.  Make sure to stop by my office or give me a call if you ever have any questions or comments.

            Educationally,

            Jane Davis, Ed.S.
